Ian is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Robert Drysdale, and teaches our No Gi Jiu Jitsu program. Receiving rank from both Eddie Bravo, then Robert Drysdale, Ian has trained in numerous grappling styles, but feels nothing is superior to Drysdale Jiu Jitsu for much more than Robert's proven, amazing teaching methodology. Robert curriculum doesn't include stuff that takes months to learn; he teaches techniques that with the right fundamentals, you can do in competition that day, an MMA fight that night, or a self defense situation – no fluff, simplified, high percentage Jiu Jitsu!
In his twelve years of grappling, Ian has studied with many pioneer instructors on the southern Ontario grappling and BJJ scene. In addition to pure, raw No Gi Jiu Jitsu, Ian has also studied 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu, Russian grappling styles, dabbled in Russian Sambo, Next Generatin MMA, was a member of the World No Gi Jiu Jitsu association, and has settled with Drysdale Jiu Jitsu after noticing how Robert's teaching methodology turbo charged his own game like no other that he's studied with before. It's hard to go with anyone else after experiencing Robert's no-bull approach to BJJ,
Ian is the 2014 Provincial Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown/Black Belt, Master's Absolute Champion.
In addition to this, Ian has led many of his students, those that began with him with absolutely no experience, to many podiums and gold medals across North America - including many provincial championships at the various levels.
Ian also hold a Masters degree in Environmental Studies, and is on break from completing a PhD in Ethnomusicology.
Robert Drysdale oversees our program. Robert is an accomplished Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, in the top 5 of the world's best, a 6x BJJ champion (weight and absolute) and an ADCC (the world's most prestigious Submission Wrestling tournament) absolute champion.
Robert has competed in over 100 BJJ tournaments, taking home over 90 titles. Mr. Drysdale is also BJJ coach to UFC standouts, Frank Mir, Forrest Griffen, and Randy Couture.
Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, Drysdale has been regarded as one of the best BJJ coaches in the world. He has developed techniques that are proven at the highest level of combat, for both gi and no gi, that are functional, and are techniques that Robert has developed and consistently uses himself. You can't go wrong with Robert Drysdale's curriculum, whether gi or no gi.
